The annual Batey Lecture presents Dr. Timothy Beal, the Florence Harkness Professor of Religion at Case Western Reserve University. The title of his lecture is "The Greatest Story Ever Sold: Evangelical Capitalism, the Digital Revolution, and the End of the Word as We Know It." The lecture is free and open to the public. Author of nine books including Religion in America: A Very Short Introduction (2008), Beale has published essays on religion and American culture for The New York Times, The Chronicle of Higher Education, and The Washington Post and been featured on radio shows including NPR's All Things Considered and The Bob Edwards Show.The annual Batey Lecture Series at Rhodes is named for New Testament scholar Dr. Richard Batey who retired from the college in 2005.
