Tony Award-winning composer and lyricist Jason Robert Brown will present "Building A Bridge: Composition for Musical Theatre" as the college's 2012-2013 Springfield Music Lecturer. The event is free. Hailed as "one of Broadway’s smartest and most sophisticated songwriters," Brown currently is working on a New York revival of his musical, "The Last Five Years." His three other major musicals as composer and lyricist include "13;" "Songs for a New World;" and "Parade" that garnered the Tony Award for Original Score. Brown also was a Tony Award nominee for his contributions to the score of "Urban Cowboy the Musical," and he has contributed music to the Nickelodeon television series, "The Wonder Pets." The Springfield Music Lecture at Rhodes was established in 1991 by a bequest from the late John Murry Springfield, a 1951 Rhodes graduate. |
