She is a UNICEF Ambassador and has spent decades advocating for the rights of children, particularly in conflict zones. She has spoken and written widely on the genocide in Darfur, where she has traveled extensively and is currently working with local tribes to create an archive to document cultural traditions being lost during the conflict. Among other recognitions, she has been named by Time Magazine as one of the 100 Most Influential People in the world.

Ronan Farrow served as a senior official in the first Obama administration, founding the State Department Office of Global Youth Issues and reporting to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton as America's first youth envoy during the Arab Spring revolutions. He also served for two years as a diplomat in Afghanistan and Pakistan. Farrow's writings on foreign policy have appeared in the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal and other publications. In 2012, Forbes Magazine ranked him number one of their "30 Under 30" most influential people in Law and Policy, a list he again made in 2013. Farrow is a Rhodes Scholar, a graduate of Yale Law School and a member of the New York Bar.

They have co-written and worked together in conflict zones.
