   Date : Monday, 7 October 2013       From : 6:00pm   To : 8:00pm
   Category : Lectures/Conferences/Symposia       Location : Blount/Buckman Lobby

   Event Description :

Renowned philosopher and writer Roger Scruton will visit Rhodes for two days, Oct. 7-8. He is the author of more than 30 books on philosophy, music, aesthetics, culture, the environment, politics and religion.

In a free public lecture on Monday, Oct. 7, at 6 p.m. in Blount Auditorium, Scruton will discuss how, in the human face, we might discover a paradigm of meaning that restores the world that has been disenchanted by scientific reductionism, and from this experience of the human face, we might construct the face of the world and address again the face of God.

On Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2-5 p.m. in Blount Auditorium, Scruton will participate in a symposium devoted to his thoughts and his writings on music, the environment, art, culture and morality. This event also is free and open to the public.

The events are sponsored by the Project for the Study of Liberal Democracy and the Department of Political Science.
