   Event Description :

As part of the Memphis Centered series, Rhodes College is proud to feature an event with Dr. Charles L. Hughes, the Andrew W. Mellon Post-Doctoral Fellow at Rhodes' Memphis Center. Hughes has researched, published, and taught extensively on music and Southern history, and in this event he will discuss one of his recent interests—the continuing importance of Elvis Presley to Memphis, the U.S. and the world.

Emerging from his popular class "Elvis Presley and America," Hughes' talk will spotlight several ways that Presley remains significant within contemporary culture and society. Using historical research, imagery and music, this event will be an engaging addition to Memphis Centered’s ongoing mission to spotlight the city's richness.

Free and open to the public, this event is presented by The Memphis Center at Rhodes College and will be an engaging addition to the center’s ongoing mission to spotlight the city’s richness. Refreshments will be served at 5 p.m. followed by the lecture at 5:30 p.m. in Barret 051.
