   Event Description :

Dr. Paul W. Harvey, chair of the history department at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs, will present “The Color of Christ: Sacred Myths and their Racial Mask” as part of Rhodes College’s annual Batey Lecture. Free and open to the public, the lecture begins at 7 p.m. in the McCallum Ballroom of the Bryan Campus Life Center on campus and will be followed by a reception and booksigning.

Harvey researches, writes, and teaches in the field of American history from the 16th century to the present. His particular interests include southern history, American religious history, and popular culture. He is creator of the Religion in American History blog and a contributor to the online journal Religion Dispatches. He also serves on the Board of Editors for the Journal of Southern History. His book The Color of Christ looks at Americans’ different visual depictions of Jesus.

The annual Batey Lecture Series at Rhodes is named for New Testament scholar Dr. Richard Batey who retired from the college in 2005. For more information, contact Dr. Milton Moreland at or (901) 843-3379.
