   Lecture by International Studies Professor Andrew Michta on Recent Tour of Afghanistan

Dr. Andrew Michta, M. W. Buckman Distinguished Professor of International Studies at Rhodes, will present “Afghanistan After 2014: What Will Be ISAF’s Legacy?” Free and open to the public, the lecture begins at 5 p.m. in Blount Auditorium of Buckman Hall.

Michta currently serves as Senior Fellow at the Center for European Policy Analysis (CEPA) in Washington, D.C. The lecture will be a first-hand account of his recent visit to Afghanistan with NATO.

In October of 2013, Michta took part in a mission to Afghanistan under NATO’s Transatlantic Opinion Leaders Tour to Afghanistan (TOLA). TOLA was organized under the auspices of the NATO Public Diplomacy Division for a small group of opinion makers in the U.S. and Europe. The objective was to allow international experts specializing on Afghanistan and the region access to Afghanistan to get a sense of the different strands of the NATO/ISAF campaign in Afghanistan, especially with respect to the process of transition to Afghan security leadership and the assistance to the quantitative and qualitative growth of the Afghan National Security Forces.

Michta is an expert on issues related to NATO, transatlantic security relations and Europe, and security and defense.
