   Panel Discussion on the Mass Incarceration of African American Males in the 21st Century

   Event Description :

As part of its Black History Month events, Rhodes will present a panel discussion titled “A Different Bling: Mass Incarceration—The New Jim Crow.” Free and open to the public, the event begins at 6:30 p.m. in Barret 051 and will focus on the mass incarceration of African American males in the 21st century.

Among the panelists are Memphis Police Director Toney Armstrong; attorney Calvin Biggs; and Dr. Eddie Glaude Jr., chair of the Center for African American Studies at Princeton University. Discussion topics include racial and sentencing disparities, the impact of mass incarceration on African American communities, and the perceptions of African Americans in the U.S.
