This is opening night for McCoy Theatre's production of William Shakespeare's "The Taming of the Shrew." A reception will follow the performance.
Set against the backdrop of a sports arena circa 2009, the Rhodes production tracks the courtship of the impetuous "gentleman" Petruchio and the obstinate Katherine (Kate). "The course of true love never did run smooth," is a bit of an understatement for this couple. If these two opponents can find common ground to balance their convictions, there is hope for warring lovers everywhere. Directed by Latrelle Bright, "The Taming of the Shrew" will run April 17 & 18, 23-25, with all shows starting a 7:30 p.m. Following the April 23rd performance, there will be a "Talk-Back" hosted by Dr. Marsha Walton featuring research of her gender studies class. The final performance will be a matinee showing on Sunday, April 26, at 2 p.m. Tickets for the show are $10 for adults, $7 for senior citizens, $5 for students from the community, and $2 for Rhodes students. Tickets may be purchased at the McCoy Theatre box office. For more information, contact mccoy@rhodes.edu or call 843-3839. |
