Dr. Charles Zelden, professor of history at Nova Southeastern, will present Rhodes' annual Constitution Day lecture. He will discuss "Bush v. Gore: Exposing the Hidden Crisis in American Democracy," based on his recently published book about the legal and political drama associated with the 2000 Presidential election. Free and open to the public, the lecture begins at 4 p.m. in Blount Auditorium. During the election, Zelden was an on-air commentator for the Miami NBC News affiliate. His book deals with the rationales of individual Supreme Court justices, and his talk will highlight ongoing concerns about the integrity of the electoral process. Zelden, who holds a Ph.D. from Rice University, is the author of two additional books on voting rights--Battle for the Black Ballot: Smith v Allwright and the Defeat of the Texas All White Primary and Voting Rights On Trial. He currently is working on a book on the U.S. Supreme Court and elections. At Nova, he teaches courses on United States constitutional history and political history.
