   Event Description :

Rhodes alumna Katie Jacobs-Stanton '91, the nation's first Director of Citizen Participation, is coming to Rhodes on September 22 to share her knowledge and insights regarding new technological platforms that allow citizens to engage with their government and communities.

This campus conversation with Jacobs-Stanton will take place at 4:15 p.m. in Blount Auditorium; earlier in the day she will be the featured speaker at a luncheon sponsored by Rhodes and the Memphis Leadership Academy at the Memphis Hilton.

Before joining President Obama's White House team, Jacobs-Stanton was at Google where she was a Group Product Manager and then Principal of New Business Development responsible for various election-related initiatives and Google Moderator. The "Moderator" tool allowed people to submit questions for the Presidential debates and later allowed them to suggest initiatives for the new administration on the site.

While at Rhodes, Jacobs-Stanton was a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity and the Tex-Mex Border Ministry. She received her B.A. in Political Science from Rhodes and M.A. in International Affairs from Columbia University. Her background also includes positions at Yahoo!, Chase Manhattan Bank, and the U.S. Senate Committee on Foreign Relations as well as volunteer work in Kenya and teaching in Japan.

Jacobs-Stanton's experiences reflect the power of a Rhodes education to prepare students for work and life beyond college.
