Rhodes will host its annual Multi-Faith Prayers for Peace, a celebration of prayer, music, dance, sacred text, food and other expressions of peace and justice of different cultures. Free and open to the public, the event will begin at 3 p.m. in the BCLC Ballroom. It will feature student religious and multicultural groups, along with leaders from different faith communities in Memphis, who will lead the prayers and celebrations.

MasterSingers Chorale and the Memphis Symphony Orchestra  3:30pm - 6:00pm

The Rhodes MasterSingers Chorale and the Memphis Symphony Orchestra will perform at Evergreen Presbyterian Church at 3:30 p.m. The church is located at 613 University St. across from the Rhodes campus. Dr. William Skoog is conductor.

Titled "A Concert for Peace," the performance includes Ralph Vaughan Williams' "Dona Nobis Pacem" and Leonard Bernstein's "Chichester Psalms." Soloists include Lawrence Albert, Carole Blankenship, James Harr, Deidre Stephens, and special guest, Mikah Meyer.

The Lillian and Morrie Moss Endowment for the Visual Arts presents Professor Randall Griffin from Southern Methodist University. He will talk about Andrew Wyeth's painting "Christina's World."

The 1948 painting presents the illusion of a self-contained world, a place suspended in time and divorced from contemporary life. The image stubbornly resists attempts to situate it within a larger historical or artistic context.

Nida Mujahid, a Henna artist living in Memphis, will host an "Art of Henna" workshop at 7 p.m. in the Orgill Room of Clough Hall. Sponsored by Rhodes’ Center for Outreach in the Development of the Arts (CODA), the event is free and open to the public.

Mujahid will give a brief talk on the history of henna and a live demonstration of how to apply the paint as a design. Visitors then will be given a chance to apply their own designs with puff paint, a type of paint applied to fabric and crafts.

Featuring Joseph Montelione, conductor; Alex Tong, violin; and Brigid Hannon, soprano

The Rhodes College Orchestra will present two exciting overtures-- Rossini's "Italian in Algiers Overture" and Mendelssohn's "Fingal’s Cave Overture"--as a prelude to the two winners of the 2009 Gladys Cauthen Solo Competition--Alex Tong and Brigid Hannon

Tong is the orchestra's concertmaster who will perform Bruch's lively "Violin Concerto." Hannon is a music major who will serenade the audience with "Una voce poco fa" from Rossini's "Barber of Seville."
