The Biology Seminar Series presents Dr. John Goss, a post doctoral research associate at Yale University where he studies molecular and cellular biology. He will present "Spatial and Temporal Regulation of Exocytosis by Molecular Tethering Complexes" as well as talk about his experiences after graduating from Rhodes in 2001.

There will be a reception in the Biology Library at 4 p.m. followed by the lecture at 4:15 p.m. in Frazier Jelke B. The host is Dr. Mary Miller of the Department of Biology.

Historian Dr. Lynn Sacco will present "Not Talking About It: Diagnosing Incest in American History." Free and open to the public, the lecture begins at 7 p.m. in Blount Auditorium of Buckman Hall. A reception will follow.

Sacco, who is an assistant professor of women's and sexuality studies at The University of Tennessee-Knoxville, recently published Unspeakable: Father-Daughter Incest in American History (Johns Hopkins University Press). For her sources, Sacco has used professional journals, medical and court records, and private and public accounts.

Dr. Jackson Bryer, professor emeritus of the University of Maryland, will present "The Greatness of Gatsby." Free and open to the public, the lecture begins at 6:30 p.m. in Blount Auditorium of Buckman Hall.

At the University of Maryland, Bryer taught undergraduate and graduate courses in American literature, modern drama, and American drama for four decades. He is the co-founder and president of the F. "The Elephant Man" Opens at Rhodes' McCoy Theatre  7:30pm - 10:00pm

Rhodes College's McCoy Theatre will open Bernard Pomerance's "The Elephant Man." The play runs Nov. 6 & 7, 12-14, with all shows starting at 7:30 p.m. The final performance will be a matinee showing on Sunday, Nov. 15, at 2 p.m.

The play is based on the life of Englishman Joseph Merrick who lived in the late 1800s and is known for the extreme deformity of his body. Surgeon Dr. Frederick Treves rescues Merrick from a freak show and takes him to a London hospital. Medical curiosity quickly evolves into human compassion as the doctor discovers the beautiful soul hidden behind Merrick's physical appearance and isolation.
